Ever wondered what’s in a wedding photographer’s camera bag? The short answer: a whole lot more than just a camera. When couples see their wedding gallery, it may look effortless—but behind the scenes, our bags are packed with gear and tools to make sure every moment is captured beautifully.

We thought it would be fun to give you a peek behind the lens and share exactly what we carry with us on a wedding day.

The Cameras

We always bring multiple camera bodies—because when it comes to a once-in-a-lifetime day, backups are non-negotiable. Carrying more than one also allows us to switch quickly between lenses without missing a beat.

The Lenses

Different lenses tell your story in different ways, so variety is key:

  • 35mm: To capture the full scene and those candid, storytelling moments.
  • 50mm: Perfect for portraits with a classic, romantic look.
  • 85mm: Beautiful for intimate close-ups and emotions.
  • 70-200mm: To document ceremonies and moments from a distance without being disruptive.
  • Plus more: 24-70mm, 20mm, 50mm (Yes another), 135mm, we carry it all, at all times!

Batteries + SD Cards

Wedding days are long, and we take thousands of photos—so yes, we bring piles of batteries and SD cards. Running out of either is simply not an option, and our backups mean we’re prepared for anything.

Lighting Gear

While natural light is dreamy, not every venue has it in abundance. That’s why we pack:

  • On-camera flashes to keep receptions bright and fun.
  • Off-camera flash setups (sometimes) when we want to create dramatic, polished light.

Flat Lay

We love photographing the little things—your rings, stationery, and heirlooms. To make sure those shots look their best, we carry:

  • Flat lay mats that give us a clean, beautiful backdrop for detail photos.

Emergency Kit

From a ripped dress strap to a sudden headache, we’ve seen it all. That’s why we bring a small emergency kit with safety pins, tape, Advil, and more. Sometimes we joke that it saves the day as often as our cameras do!

Weather Prep

We live in the Midwest, so we know how unpredictable wedding day weather can be. That’s why clear bubble umbrellas are always a must—functional, cute, and perfect for rainy-day portraits. Might not fit in our bags, but we guarantee they’re in our vehicles.
