Destination: Charlotte, North Carolina – A Wedding Filming Adventure
When I started Shipwrecked two years ago it never crossed my mind that I would be flying all over to film incredible weddings. Becoming a travel wedding videographer was so far out there, but now I an doing it! Now its almost a monthly event! Today’s journey takes us from the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio, down to the vibrant cityscape of Charlotte, North Carolina. Our mission? Capturing the magical wedding of Kate and Tyler at the beautiful “The Revelry”! I would spend the weekend as a Charlotte wedding videographer and I couldn’t wait!
Pre-Flight Excitement in Cleveland
Our adventure begins at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, where the morning sun casts a golden hue over the terminal. Depending on the project i am either flying with one of our team members or working for another local team. This time I was working for the incredibly talented Ashley Cynthia which means I was flying solo. Traveling solo was something a year ago I was a bit intimidated by but now after getting about ten travel weddings under my belt I feel like a seasoned pro. So I enter the Delta terminal with my Starbucks in one hand and my Pelican Air in the other anxiously waiting to board. In case your wondering my preflight Starbucks order is a Venti Flat White. There are tons of talented Charlotte wedding videographers and I was blessed enough to be traveling from Ohio!
Up, Up, and Away!
Boarding our flight, we settle into our seats with cameras and equipment securely stowed overhead. As the plane taxis down the runway, Cleveland’s skyline recedes, giving way to the patchwork of green and brown fields below. The flight to Charlotte Douglas International Airport is smooth and swift, allowing us time to review my shot list and mentally prepare for the day ahead.
Touchdown in Charlotte
Upon arrival, Charlotte welcomes us with its Southern hospitality and warm, balmy air. I arrived slightly before Ashley so I spent some time at the airport until she arrived. We eventually met up, got the car and let the adventure begin. We had about a day to tour the city so we wasted no time. Driving through the city, we’re struck by the blend of modern skyscrapers and historic neighborhoods, each offering a unique backdrop for our filming.
Before the big day, we take some time to scout locations. The Queen City doesn’t disappoint with its picturesque parks, trendy coffee shops, and bustling streets. South End’s murals provide a colorful canvas for pre-wedding shots, while the serene Freedom Park offers a peaceful retreat amidst the urban hustle.
Finally, the wedding day arrives. Our team is up bright and early, capturing the bride’s nervous excitement and the groom’s anxious grin. Based on our research beforehand we knew the venue was about to be stunning. We were not disappointed. The incredible tall ceiling with a modern urban vibe just made it stunning. Within seconds I was in love and had a new contender for a favorite venue. Upon meeting Kate and Tyler I knew we were in good company.
Tyler is a mans man, he pulled up on his beautiful Toyota Tundra with flowers in hand. We shook hands and he told me about what he does and how him and Kate met. As a wedding videographer our job is to tell stories and learning about the couple and their background is essential. Kate was a sweet heart, pure southern charm and someone who was just excited about the day.
The Day
The day was flawless! It was filled with laughter and joy! This couples love was out of this world and I was honored to be their videographer. Some of the highlights being their beautiful first look with the city skyline behind them, and their roof top sunset session complete with personal DJ. It was on that rooftop I reflected on the fact of how blessed I am to get to travel the country to meet incredible couples on the best day of their lives!
Until Next Time
Whether you’re traveling for work or pleasure, every journey leaves its mark. Cleveland to Charlotte may not be the longest flight, but it’s been packed with memories and meaningful experiences. So here’s to the next adventure, wherever it may take us – until then, happy travels!
