So, if you have 8 hours of wedding photography coverage, you can generally expect around 800+ edited photos in your final gallery.
But let’s break down what that really means.
Our Rule of Thumb: About 100 Photos Per Hour
When couples ask us how many images they can expect, we usually say around 100 photos per hour as a general estimate.
That means:
- 4 hours → roughly 400+ photos
- 6 hours → roughly 600+ photos
- 8 hours → roughly 800+ photos
- 10 hours → roughly 1,000+ photos
These numbers are not a guaranteed photo count or a limit. They’re simply a helpful way to give you an idea of what your final gallery might look like.
Some weddings will have more, while others may have fewer. And that’s completely normal!
Why Isn’t There an Exact Number?
Your wedding day isn’t a photo booth with a set number of pictures.
Some parts of the day naturally create more images than others. For example, a busy reception with a packed dance floor can result in hundreds of candid moments, while an hour spent photographing family formals may result in fewer overall images. We don’t want to take photos simply to hit a certain number.
Instead, we’re looking for the moments that are actually worth keeping. That might be your mom fixing your veil, your grandparents laughing during family photos, your friends losing their minds on the dance floor, or the two of you sneaking away for a quiet moment during your reception.
We’re focused on telling the story of your wedding day—not hitting a quota.
Formal Photos Can Affect Your Final Gallery
One of the biggest things that can impact your final photo count is how many formalities you have throughout the day.
Family portraits, wedding party photos, detail photos, and other posed groupings are typically more structured. You may receive several variations of a group or pose, but you’re not going to receive hundreds of nearly identical family photos.
For example, if we photograph a family group, we’re looking for the best expressions and moments rather than delivering every single frame we took. This helps keep your gallery intentional and enjoyable to look through.
Candid Moments Can Add Up Quickly
On the other hand, candid moments can make your gallery grow quickly! Your photographer may capture multiple images during one moment because expressions, interactions, and movement are constantly changing.
Think about your first dance, we might photograph:
- The two of you laughing
- A close-up of your hands
- A wide shot of the dance floor
- Your parents watching
- Your friends cheering
- A kiss
- A twirl
- A quiet moment between you
It’s technically one part of your wedding day, but there are so many different pieces of that moment that help tell the story. Those are the images that make your gallery feel like your wedding day, rather than just a collection of posed portraits.
More Coverage Usually Means More Photos
Generally, the more time your photographer spends with you, the more opportunities there are to create images.
An 8-hour wedding day has significantly more time for getting ready photos, details, portraits, ceremony moments, cocktail hour, reception details, and candid moments than a 4-hour celebration. That’s why our rough estimate of 100 images per hour is helpful when thinking about coverage.
However, more hours doesn’t necessarily mean better photos. The goal is to make sure you have enough coverage to capture the important parts of your day without adding unnecessary hours just to increase your gallery size.
Quality Over Quantity
At the end of the day, we’d much rather give you 800 meaningful images than 1,500 images filled with duplicates, blurry frames, awkward expressions, or moments that don’t add anything to your story.
Your wedding gallery should feel intentional. You should be able to scroll through it and relive the day—from the little details you spent months planning to the people you love most and all the moments you didn’t even realize were happening.
